Xavier Edges KU Women

FREEPORT, Bahamas- The Xavier women edged Kansas 76-71 in a battle of ranked teams. Danielle McCray scored 23 points for the Jayhawks in the opening round loss in the Junkanoo Jam.

The No. 9 Musketeers and No. 18 Jayhawks exchanged leads throughout the first half. There were five ties and 12 lead changes in the first half. Xavier took a 38-37 lead in to halftime.

McCray did her best to take over in the second half. She scored 18 of her 23 points after the intermission. Aishah Sutherland chipped in 16 points. It was not enough. The loss dropped Kansas to 3-1 on the season. Xavier improved to 4-0.

Kansas will play either TCU or Minnesota in the consolation round Saturday at 12 p.m. CST.
