Tom Watson Finally Comes Home

WESTWOOD, Kan. – It’s been more than three weeks, but Tom Watson is finally back in his hometown of Kansas City.

Watson spent time on Monday morning to visit with the media at his office in Westwood. The golf legend just returned from action at the U.S. Senior Open.

That’s after he made major headlines in the golfing world when he nearly won the British Open, two months from his 60th birthday. He missed a par putt on the 18th hole that would have made him the oldest golfer ever to win a major. Instead, he lost the title in a playoff.

Watson said when he pulled into his neighborhood on Sunday night, he saw a sign that said how everyone was proud of what he accomplished. Watson said it made him feel really good to see that.

He also talked about the putt he missed on 18 to win the British Open. He said he felt good when he was over the putt, but he just made a bad stroke and blocked it to the right. Watson said he couldn’t sleep at all that Sunday night because he was going over his tough round in his mind.

The Kansas City golfer said he received a huge stack of letters at his office from people congratulating him. He said he’s heard from some people for the first time in 30 years.
