KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A former St. Louis Cardinal has joined the Kansas City T-Bones.
Rico Washington signed with the Northern League team on Tuesday for the upcoming season. The 31-year-old Washington has spent 12 years in the minors.
The Pirates drafted Washington in the 10th round in 1997. He spent six seasons in the Pittsburgh organization before heading to the San Diego Padres system for two years. He then spent one season with Tampa in the minors before landing with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006.
Washington made his Major League debut as a pinch-hitter for St. Louis on April 1, 2008. He went batted .158 in 14 games for the Cardinals.
“It’s good to have a veteran leader like Rico join the team,” T-Bones manager Tim Doherty. “He brings experience and the talent to play either third or first and will be a good left-handed addition to the middle of the lineup.”
The T-Bones start their 2010 season in Gary, Ind. on May 20. Their home opener is against Fargo-Moorhead on May 28. For more information, go to
