KANSAS CITY, Mo.- It took a little while longer than they hoped, but the Royals finally got their man. First-round pick Aaron Crow has agreed to terms of a three-year Major League contract which will begin in 2010.
The Royals selected Crow 12th overall in the latest draft. The native of Wakarusa, Kan. played briefly for the Fort Worth Cats of the independent American Association this past season. He won all three of his starts with a 1.06 ERA.
Crow ended up in the independent leagues after turning down an offer from the Washington Nationals. The Nationals picked Crow in the first-round of the 2008 draft. He spurned their contract offer and entered the draft again this year.
In 2008, Crow posted a 13-0 record for Missouri with a 2.35 ERA. He was the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year.
Crow is expected to play in the instructional league which begins next week in Surprise, Ariz. Various reports indicate Crow's deal is worth at least $3 million.
