LAWRENCE, Kan. – Just when it sounds like KU head football coach Mark Mangino is about to lose his job, comes another report.

Now this investigation could be focusing on athletic director Lew Perkins.

NBC Sports is reporting that Perkins could be on the hot-seat for undermining Mangino.

Perkins met with the players without the coach knowing about it.

It’s believed that Perkins or someone associated with his office has been leaking information that under-cuts the head coach.

Mangino and Perkins are neighbors on a golf course and at one time could be seen sitting on each other's decks smoking cigars -but not anymore.

While some people are under the impression that Mangino may not be with the team anymore in Lawrence, there are some who think Perkins may be out of a job.

University officials deny Perkins is under investigation, says Jack Martin, Deputy Director of University Communications at KU.

Martin also denied that anyone associated with the school was leaking information.  Martin says the information was obtained by media through a request made under the Sunshine Law.

Another report was circulating Thursday that Mark Mangino would be fired Friday. Mike Strauss of the KU Athletic Department said there's no truth to the reports. It's a complete rumor.
