KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Westport High School Tigers are in the playoffs.

You read that right.

Westport is looking for a trip to the big time.

The Tigers spent Tuesday afternoon on the practice field getting ready for a playoff game.

That's big news at the midtown high school sometimes better known for trouble in its hallways rather than excellence on the football field.

Coach Dan Stanley says he knows why things are better for his team.

"I attribute this to my coaching staff and the good kids that we have,'' Coach Stanley told NBC Action News Tuesday at practice.

Junior Derron Whitley is excited about the chance to play another game.

"I just love football,'' Whitley said. "So I'm gonna do my part regardless of what it is.''

Coach Stanley and one assistant, Ed Russell, have 100 years of coaching experience between them.

The Tigers face a tough battle Wednesday night.

They play Kearney, a team with an 8-2 record.
