KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Royals general manager Dayton Moore is a busy man these days. The trade deadline is approaching and Moore is beating the bushes trying to find a way to jumpstart a struggling ballclub.

"It's been a disappointment. That being said, we are, right now, doing our best to regroup, looking for opportunities around all of baseball where we can fill some of the holes," said Moore.

Moore pulled off a minor trade to acquire Ryan Freel. He says he is open to other deals. However, he is not willing to accept low-level prospects in exchange for major league players.

"We're not necessarily interested in moving some of our established major league players to get prospects in A-ball back.  So, for us to move any of our core players, we would want near major league talent back. Teams that are in the pennant race are hesitant to do that with the economics of the game today."

Moore felt pretty good about the club he built this offseason. Those happy feelings quickly faded with each new injury to players like Coco Crisp, Mike Aviles and Alex Gordon. The off season moves to bring in Crisp and Mike Jacobs have not paid dividends. However, Moore still feels like he made the right decision.

He said, "I think given the information that we had and still know right now, we had to be aggressive in acquiring those two players for our baseball team."

Moore thought he had built a winner. Injuries tore that dream apart. So, he is back at work rebuilding.

"Obviously, it's not the same team that we put together in the off season. It's not he same team that we left spring training with."
