MANHATTAN, Kan.- This was a classic Kansas State performance. The Wildcats forced three Kansas turnovers. They did not turn the ball over themselves. Daniel Thomas racked up 185 yards on the ground as K-State beats Kansas 17-10.
The Kansas State defense came up with big play after big play. They harassed KU quarterback Todd Reesing all day long. Reesing continued his downward spiral by turning the ball over three times in the first half. He threw one interception and fumbled twice.
Reesing did have one bright moment. He threw a touchdown pass to Dezmon Briscoe, giving the Jayhawks an early 7-3 lead.
It did not last long. Reesing kept giving Kansas State short fields to work with. They eventually capitalized late in the first half. Grant Gregory threw a 31-yard scoring strike to Lamark Brown to give Kansas State a 10-7 at the half.
K-State's offense again revolved around Thomas. He rushed for 185 yards and a touchdown, and his second half score put the Wildcats up 17-7.
Kansas added a late field goal for the final margin. The Jayhawks had missed two previous field goal attempts.
It was not a pretty performance for the Hawks. They fall to 5-4 overall, 1-4 in the Big 12. Kansas is virtually eliminated from the Big 12 North race.
Kansas State has the division in its grasps. They lead the North with a 4-2 conference mark. Kansas State is 6-4 overall.
