New Jersey Devils defenseman Anssi Salmela will miss Wednesday's home game against the Philadelphia Flyers after suffering a concussion and broken nose.

Salmela left Monday's game against Philadelphia on a stretcher early in the second period. A split-second after he tallied a short-handed goal 61 seconds into the period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead, he was leveled by a hard shoulder check from Flyers forward Jeff Carter.

The 25-year-old Finn lay on the ice face-down and virtually motionless for several minutes before he was loaded onto the stretcher and taken for evaluation.

To fill the roster spot, the Devils will recall defenseman Rob Davison from Lowell of the American Hockey League.
