The Seattle Mariners have claimed pitcher
Yusmeiro Petit off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Petit appeared in 23 games for the Diamondbacks in 2009, posting a record of
3-10 with a 5.82 earned run average. In 17 starts, he was 3-9 with a 5.72 ERA.
The right-hander, who turns 25 later this month, spent the past three seasons
with Arizona after one year in Florida. He owns a career mark of 10-20 with a
5.57 ERA in 71 games, including 36 starts.
Petit was originally signed by the New York Mets as a non-drafted free agent
in 2001 and spent his first four pro seasons in the New York organization
before being sent to Florida as part of the Carlos Delgado trade following the
2005 season. The Diamondbacks acquired him in 2007 in exchange for pitcher
Jorge Julio.
