The Los Angeles Dodgers declined the $10
million mutual option for the 2010 season on pitcher Jon Garland.
Garland, who can now become a free agent, was acquired by the Dodgers in a
trade deadline deal with the Diamondbacks, who received infielder Tony Abreu.
The right-hander made six starts with LA, going 3-2 with a 2.72 earned-run
average after pitching to an 8-11 record with a 4.29 ERA in 27 starts for
Arizona.
The innings-eater has started 288 games in his career and made 23 appearances
out of the bullpen. Garland spent the first eight years of his career with
Chicago before spending the 2008 season with the Angels.
For his career, the 30-year-old is 117-102 with a 4.42 ERA.
