Kansas City Royals first baseman Billy
Butler earned American League Player of the Month honors for September.
Butler batted an American League-best .363 with 26 runs batted in and six home
runs in 27 games last month. The 23-year-old Butler, who was the 14th overall
pick in the 2004 draft, posted a .459 on-base percentage along with a .675
slugging percentage.
Butler enjoyed his best game of the month on September 25, going 4-for-5 with
a pair of homers and four RBI in a 9-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
Twins outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who tied for an AL-best with eight home
runs in pursuit of the AL Central crown, was runner-up for the award. Also
garnering consideration were New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, who
led the AL with a .686 slugging percentage, and Toronto Blue Jays slugger Adam
Lind, who also knocked eight homers and drove in 25 runs.
