WASHINGTON - Groups from across the Show-Me State are set to discuss climate change Wednesday night in Washington.

"The Human Face of Climate Change" is sponsored by The Kansas City League of Women Voters, Oxfam America, the University of Missouri Kansas City Women’s Center and the University of Missouri Environmental Studies Department.

It will be held at the Community Christian Church Activity Center from 6:30 to 8 pm.

“Women around the world are disproportionately affected by climate change,” said Peg Prendergast, President of the League of Women Voters of Kansas City. “This event is intended to help voters in Kansas City understand the importance of taking action on climate change.”

The event will include a screening of “Sisters on the Planet.” A panel of experts including Davies, PhD, Director of Environmental Studies at UMKC, and Gbaike Ajayi, Chairperson of the Kansas City Young Professionals for International Cooperation are set to be on hand.

“It is time that Missouri’s Senators support comprehensive reforms that fully acknowledge the urgency of the situation,” Prendergast concluded. “The Senators’ actions on this issue in the coming months will have a huge impact on the state and the country for years to come, so we hope that both Senator McCaskill and Senator Bond are committed to supporting legislation that adequately addresses the problem.”
