Kansas organist rests fingers after 58 years

Last Update: 11/07 2:29 pm

SALINA, Kan. (AP) — A Salina church organist is retiring after nearly six decades.

Harry Huber is retiring from University United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Mike Rose, pastor of University church, says members of the congregation will probably be feeling some grief over the idea of church services without Huber's music.

Huber moved to Kansas in 1945 to accept a minister of music post at First Methodist Church in Hutchinson. He accepted a position at Kansas Wesleyan University.

Upon retirement, he was named professor emeritus of music and received an honorary doctorate.
