Kansas Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Department of Defense says a Parsons, Kan. man died earlier this month while serving in Afghanistan.

Army Spc. Daniel L. Cox, 23, of Parsons was killed Sept. 12 in Wardak province, Afghanistan. The military says enemy forces attacked Cox's vehicle with an improvised explosives device and fired shots into the vehicle.

Also killed in the attack was Staff Sgt. Nekl Allen, 29, of Rochester, N.Y.

Cox and Allen were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. Cox had been dispatched to Afghanistan in Jan.
