The viral strain associated with the "swine flu" has claimed the life of a local man. Wyandotte County is reporting the death of a 39 year old man this week related to complications from the 2009 Novel H1N1 Influenza.
The patient had no underlying medical conditions and began experiencing symptoms on October 1, 2009 such as severe cough, chills and headache.
"We offer our condolences and sympathy for the family of the deceased," stated Joseph Connor, Director of the Unified Government Public Health Department. "Our community, and the nation as a whole are facing one of the most challenging public health issues of our time and we must all work together to prevent more H1N1 related hospitalizations and deaths."
This death follows victims from Johnson, Platte and Clay counties. This is one of three Kansas deaths confirmed Thursday. A 52 year old Wichita woman died Tuesday. A 51 year old woman from the Topeka area died Thursday.
