KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The H1N1, commonly known as the swine flu, vaccine has arrived in Johnson County and in Kansas City, Mo.
The Johnson County Health Department (JCHD) received 700 doses of the vaccine in nasal spray form.
Six hundred doses have been allocated to Johnson County Med-Act for first responders. The remainder will be distributed at the Health Department to staff with direct patient contact and to limited, high priority, high-risk populations.
The JCHD said 2,300 doses were directly shipped to Johnson County hospitals. More vaccines are expected to arrive next week.
The Kansas City, Missouri Health Department announced Tuesday they received their first shipment of the H1N1 vaccine.
Of this initial shipment, 2,400 doses were direct shipped to medical care providers and the remaining 300 doses are being delivered to providers with smaller requests for vaccine.
The initial shipments are the nasal-spray vaccines. With such a limited supply, these doses are intended for healthy children 2 to 4 years old.
The Health Department is urging parents with children in this age group to contact their physician to check for availability of vaccine.
The Jackson County, Missouri Health Department is still waiting for the vaccine. Last week, they sent out 1,300 doses of the mist, but they are still waiting for them to arrive.
In Clay County, they ordered 500 doses of the mist, but it has not yet arrived. They are pre-positioning with physicians’ offices for the shot; they will also hold their own clinics when they receive the doses.
It is not yet known if Platte County or Wyandotte County received the H1N1 flu vaccine.
