BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – Outdoor summer fun and child safety highlight the events posted for this weekend on the
NBC Action News Events Calendar.
You can cruise the lake on a scenic boat ride or compete in the biggest water balloon contest of any outdoor festival during this year's Lake Fest at Lake Jacomo.
Saturday's festival marks the lake's 50th birthday, and activities are planned throughout the evening. There will be food, live music, games, rides and a fireworks display over the water.
Country 94.1 KFKF and Star 102.1 Radio will be there with raffles and giveaways. The John Joiner Band will be headlining the event.
The excitement kicks off at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 per vehicle or $5 per walk-in. More information can be found at

If you want to teach your children about bike safety, BikeSmart! is the place to be.
From 9 – 11 a.m. Saturday, Children's Mercy Hospital will team up with the Lee’s Summit Kohl's to teach children the rules of the road.
They will be giving away free bike helmets while supplies last. Professionals will be there to fit them properly, and children will also receive reflective stickers to decorate them with.
Last year, Children's Mercy Hospital and Clinics saw more than 600 children in the emergency room because of bike injuries. This event is an effort to raise awareness about the importance of wearing a helmet and reduce the number of injuries caused due to improper riding.
Families will also get to tour a Children's Mercy ambulance and enter to win a Kohl's gift card. Each child will go home with a Kohl’s Cares for Kids plush animal while supplies last.
BikeSmart! will be held at the Kohl’s Department Store at Summit Woods Crossing, 1820 NW Chipman Rd., in Lee’s Summit.
