WYCO Celebrates 150 Years

KANSAS CITY, Kan.--Wyandotte County marks its 150th anniversary this year with a major celebration June 6 an 7 at the Wyandotte County Historical Museum.

Wyandotte County was born in 1859 by an act of the Kansas Legislature. The act, signed by Governor Medeary January 29, 1859, carved out 153 square miles from the southeast corner of Leavenworth County and the north side of Johnson County.

The two day celebration will feature re-enactors, speakers, dancers,music, hot Aar balloons, children's area, food court, beer garden, blacksmith, spinner/weaver, quilters,and an exhibition of the Wyandotte Art Association.

The event will end on Sunday at 3:30pm with the Dedication of the obelisk, which will be a permanent monument outside of the museum.

The events are held at the Wyandotte County Historical Museum, 631 N. 126th Bonner Springs Kansas, unless noted otherwise. Festivities are open to the public.
