OVERLAND PARK, Ks. -- While some companies are cutting jobs or canceling expansion plans, an upscale department store chain is moving forward. NBC Action News took a tour of Overland Park's new Von Maur store today at 135th and Metcalf.
The new store will bring 200 jobs to the metro when it opens November 8th. The upscale department store includes clothing and accessories for men, women and children – along with gifts, cosmetics and jewelry.
They say it's their reputation for great customer service that allows them to continue moving forward. Those perks include free gift wrap and shipping on any purchase. They also offer an interest free credit card. Each day shoppers will also enjoy the soothing sounds of a live piano located at the center of the first floor.
"Von Maur does a lot of research and it's a measured growth, slow and steady,” explains store manager Danielle Evon. “And we have a great loyal business from our customers and our employees as well, and that allows us to continue to expand."Von Maur is based in Davenport, Iowa. They operate 24 stores throughout Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Ohio.
