INDEPENDENCE, Mo.-- Several Independence homeowners awoke Sunday to swastikas and foul language spray painted on their property.
And it’s a problem they want the Independence Police Department to do something about.
At least eight houses and several cars were tagged with graffiti in Independence's Susquehanna neighborhood. Even fences were a target.
Brian Fields lives in the neighborhood. He spent the morning trying to remove the graffiti – which included racial slurs – from the house across the street. It's vacant and Fields didn't want his 11-year-old son to see the obscenities.
"Every once in awhile, we'll get a random group of kids who come through here and terrorize stuff, but normally we don't,” Fields said. “All the neighbors know each other. We all get along we try to take care of each other.”
Independence Police officers say they have stepped up patrols in the area, but have no idea who might be responsible for the vandalism.
