KANSAS CITY, MO – The patriotism felt on Veterans Day is no guarantee that some veteran’s organizations will thrive.
A national study indicates that the number of VFW posts around the country is shrinking.
More than 400 Veterans of Foreign Wars posts have closed down across the country since 2007.
Many members are growing old and dying off while younger veterans choose not to join the social and organizational clubs.
Harold Smith with the VFW post in Belton, Missouri says the same is true at his post, but he says they will survive.
Smith says it has been difficult to recruit young members.
