ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Students can breathe a sigh of relief with the announcement tuition at Missouri's state colleges and universities will be frozen next year.

Tuesday at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, Governor Jay Nixon announced tuition and fees will be frozen for a second straight year. Nixon said he does need to reduce higher education spending by 5.2 percent or $42 million for the next fiscal year. However the governor agreed the budget cuts will not be as deep as they could have been in the current economy.

The agreement still needs approval by Missouri lawmakers and governing boards at state colleges and universities.
