De SOTO, Kan. - Part of an elementary school was a crime scene Monday morning as deputies combed the building for clues to a weekend theft.
Thieves took tools, a computer and other items from Starside Elementary School near K-10 Highway and Lexington Avenue in De Soto, according to a school district spokesperson.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crime.
Students were kept away from the areas affected by the crime while investigators searched for leads.
The thieves gained access to locked school rooms by crawling across the drop ceilings, according to the spokesperson.
The building sustained minor damage.
A construction project is underway at the school to add four classrooms.
