INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – Police have charged a Blue Springs man after a fatal weekend crash.

The crash happened Saturday night on U.S. 24 Highway west of Blue Mills Road.

Police say they took a driver into custody immediately after the crash. He is 19-year-old Kenneth Scott Blake, II.

Blake was arraigned Monday in Jackson County after being charged with involuntary manslaughter with a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of at least .18%.

Police say Blake was westbound in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 24 Highway when he struck another vehicle. Sixteen-year-old Laura Beth Reynolds, of Independence, was killed in the crash. She was a passenger in the vehicle that was hit.

The driver and another passenger in that car suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
