Matt Pope is a VERY close family friend of mine. He's very much a part of our lives and fred phelps should rot in hell for his ignorance, hate and intolerance. May God have mercy on his soul...he needs it. Matt Pope does not. God loves everyone...except maybe you Phelps.

Congratulations to the students and faculty at Shawnee Mission East. Fred Phelps and his followers apparently do not understand the Scriptures; because if they did they would not be running around the county protesting, but would instead by praying for guidance. The truth is that the media, yes, including KSHB and all of the other news outlets in the area and around the country, encourage Phelps' efforts. I truely believe that if the media/press were to ignore Phleps and company, they would probably stop their protesting. Although I personally do not condone homosexuality, like Our Saviour, Jesus, I believe that we are all God's children and worthy of His love and grace. Those who choose an alternative life style will ultimately be judged by their Creator. I pray for the students and staff at Shawnee Mission East for their courage and understand. I pray for Fred Phelps and his followers that they learn tolerance, understand and love for their fellow human beings. Finally, I pray that the media learn to not give into the limelight seekers like Fred Phelps. God bless all who read this and God Bless America!

My daughter goes to East and I'm proud of her and all her fellow students for the counter protest. I wish Phelps clan would answer a few questions for me. 1) If the US is so bad and you have protest stuff why are you still here? 2) If the US is so bad why are you bearing children into this world? 3) If the death of our people is God's punishment to the US for allowing gays then wouldn't your own death be that also? 4) You ought to be thankful to the military that has fought and died for your right to get out there and say your peace. You need to get a life and realize that people are people and God made us in his image.

I couldn't be prouder of these young people at SME. They had a positive message and did a super job in relaying the same. I have a much more positive outlook of our future when I see these people taking a positive stand for what is right. George M Melby, Pastor/Chaplain

Phelps and his followers are ignorant, trailer trash people who are incapable of sustaining a meaningful life outside of their own pre-conceived and self-ordained fantasy life which they have chosen to live while invoking the mantle of Christianity. My fondest wish, as a Christian is that that dumb sob and/or his daughter, who couldn't land a real legal job stuble on to my property. As a retired military member, those less than human life-forms disgust me that they would demonstrate at a military funeral! Those are the very people that give that scum the right to state their semi-literate rhetoric in a public forum. Talk about q---r, at least some homosexuals are willing to sign on the dotted line to die for what they believe in! What about you Phelps, you sick a--hole, what would you be willing to die for? I can only imagine that the very hatred you insist that God feels for His people, would make the line of volunteers to send you to meet your fate in hell would be a very long line! Care to try it??!!

If Jesus himself had been there, my guess is he would have been on your side of the street! And, I believe He would have turned the situation to good (helping those in need) just like you did. Way to go, SME students!

Just quit paying attention to these attention-starved morons. No one at the top of that sick group really believes what they espouse, but they prey on and recruit those simple-minded folks that do. Phelps is from a family of lawyers and they started this litigious cult as a method of shaking down plaintiffs in a courtroom. Their plan: say vile, despicable things to incite assault from others and sue for damages. The less the media reports about them and the more we ignore them, the sooner they will go away.
