OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Students, parents and faculty rallied for a metro teacher to keep his job.

It was standing room only at Monday's Shawnee Mission School Board meeting.

People lined up to make their case of why science teacher Mr. Haraughty should not be fired.

He was pulled out of class in the middle of the day.

The district never explained why he was let go.

"I'm here mainly to support the teacher and also my daughter who’s never shown an interest in science until she met him, and he has really pushed her along and prepared her well for science. She enjoys him," says Phil Hudon.

Nineteen teachers and 258 students signed a petition to keep Mr. Haraughty.
