LIBERTY, Mo. - Mother Nature struck twice in Liberty Tuesday night. First, the heat knocked out power, and then the storms struck a blow.

Shortly after 5 p.m. two circuits failed, knocking out power to 3,300 residents in and around Liberty.

Katie McDonald of KCP&L says crews believe the increased demand overloaded the circuits, causing residents from East Lowell south to Northeast 48th Street and North Lawn east to North Bennington to be without power for about 45 minutes.

Residents from 69 Highway north from Interstate 435 to Northeast 76th Street, and from Shoal Creek Parkway to Liberty Drive to be out just over an hour.

Then just before 6 p.m. a microburst hit Liberty.

Two apartment buildings at the Wilshire Apartments at 209 and 217 Belmont suffered roof damage. High winds, hail and rain also knocked down trees, power lines and poles.

That storm knocked out power to 3,900 customers.

No injuries were reported.

KCP&L says by 9:45 all but about 600 customers were back on.
