MISSION, Kan. - The Kansas Special Olympics Torch Run is set to kickoff May 30 for the weeklong journey to Wichita, culminating on June 5.
Over 650 officers from over 60 agencies will carry the "Flame of Hope”.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a series of statewide runs that will end in Wichita for the Special Olympics.
Over 2,400 athletes, coaches and fans will be on hand for the annual games.
Adam Taylor of Prairie Village is coordinating this year’s local effort.
The Kansas City Metro Torch Run will kick off June 2 at 9 a.m. at Bass Pro in Olathe with a brief ceremony and the lighting of the "Flame of Hope”.
The Torch Run is the largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics. In 2008, over $300,000 dollars was raised.
