KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Heavy rain on already-soaked ground has caused localized flooding on streams and even on roadways. It may also be responsible for pavement problems of a different sort.
NBC Action News Skytracker captured video of a vehicle stuck in a sink hole when the pavement gave way near 79th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard just before 7 a.m. on Monday.
Later in the day, NBC Action News viewer Tony Swin captured photos of water spouting more than 10 feet in the air after a water main broke at 58th Street and N.W. Waukomis Drive, near Line Creek Elementary School in the northland.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says they have closed several roads due to high water. In Ray County, Route D is closed at Route C. In Lafayette County, Route D is closed near Route FF. In Platte County, they have closed Route B near route KK.
Leavenworth, Kan., Police Chief Pat Kitchens said 10 to 15 intersections were closed there due to flash flooding. He said a woman got stuck in high water on Second Street and a railroad crew rescued her. He said his officers have assisted other stranded motorists. A few homes and a business were damaged. By noon, the water had receded in most areas.
In Kansas City, Kan., the intersections of 11th Street and Ohio Avenue and 11th Street and Minnesota Avenue were reported closed at about 11:30 a.m. because of high water.
The Jackson County, Mo., Sheriff's office says eastern Jackson County, including Oak Grove, is seeing some creeks overflowing and several intersection closures due to high water.
In Fairway, Kan., State Park Road is closed at Belinder Road, near Mission Hills Country Club, due to flooding.
The National Weather Service reminds travelers not to drive through flowing water. They say nearly half of all flood fatalities are vehicle related, and you can lose control of your vehicle in as little as 6 inches of water. Two feet of water will carry most vehicles away.
