SHAWNEE, Kan. – Authorities in Texas have arrested 23-year-old Brandon Reed who is wanted for questioning in the death of his girlfriend, 21-year-old Christina Osburn of Shawnee.
Reed's car was found burning Saturday near Laredo, Texas. A trucker reported seeing a white male walking away from the burning vehicle around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Reed was arrested by Border Patrol agents at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. A citizen contacted police after seeing a man trying to flag down passing cars along a dirt road just outside Catarina, Texas. Catarina is about 60 miles north of Laredo.
Police were called just after midnight Friday to Nieman Square Apartments in the 6400 block of Flint in Shawnee to check on Osburn, who had not been heard from since Wednesday night.
Police arrived to find Osburn dead inside an apartment. They have not released the cause of her death but say they consider her death a homicide.
Officials say Reed and Osburn were together about a year and had a rocky relationship that might have included domestic abuse.
Reed is also on probation for violation of a protection order.
Local detectives will travel to Texas to interview Reed.
