The deer population throughout the KC area has grown totally out of control. There are dead deer lying along every highway. Tens of thousands of dollars in vehicle damage occurs due to hitting deer. Motorcycle riders are most in danger of deer collisions. Untold hundreds of injured deer die in pain after being struck on the highways. It is time to thin out the herd size throughout the entire state. One human life lost in a vehicle/deer accident isn't worth all the deer in the state.

If you don't like "deers" or they are bothering you in your backyard and such, why don't you go back and live in the city? People want to go and live in the country to be close to nature and animals, but then they start bit*** that animals get too close to them and they want them out or killed because they can't enjoy their backyard??? I get squerrils in my backyard I guess I should hire someone to shoot the hell out of them? We keep reducing forests to build houses and then when these animals don't know where to go or find food what do we do? Well, we kill them of course, that is the "sensible" thing to do, after all how dare they come to "our" backyard and look for food, we were there first, right?

That's a good idea..Maybe they should have the deer processed and given to homeless families and those that can't buy food for their families.

The thing with the "non-lethal" methods is they can become lethal. Except for hunting, there's no great way to get deer out of areas they shouldn't be in.

"They say they don't have a lot of choices because Kansas does not allow non lethal methods".. Hey how about recommending "Allowing non lethal methods" to the state?!

Monte, have you ever been to Shawnee Mission Park? This is NOT a national park! It's a town park where people go to run, bike-ride, hike, and swim. People go morel mushroom hunting there, too. You want to turn a pack of wolves loose there? Good grief. The deer there ARE getting to be a bit of a nuisance. I think selective thinning of the herd would be a wise decision, and I do hope that the meat is donated to local food banks.

If hunting by officials ends up being the solution, the county should make any safe deer meat available to local food banks for need Kansas City area families.

Mt heyseed says, Here, in Helena MT. we've become infested with over 500 or more deer, a large part of them were born in backyards and only know how to forage for food in gardens and flowerbeds. Some have gotten very territorial not allowing people in their back yard and even cornored a paperboy under a car one morning. After many public meetings and much discussion, They have an occational "culling" of maybe 50 deer done with silencers and I think police officers. The meat is donated to the food bank. I have no idea if this is working or not. I, as well as many have just learned to tolerate them by puting plastic deer fencing around our garden/flowerbeds.

Stupid Government Officials... You are going to spend money on training, bring in outside Law Enforcement personnel that "want to participate" in thinning the Deer population? Why not do the smart thing and open for a drawn hunt? Make hunters apply, have a lottery, charge winners $$ for a license and there you go, all is good. Sounds like someone wants a special hunt for their buddies funded by the State.

At least have them butchered and donated to those in need. Low income family's, shelters. Don't just kill them and let them rot in a land fill. Ask local butchers to volunteer and use the meat.
