KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A lot of precipitation mixed with a nearby creek equals a potential health hazard.
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department says that recent heavy rains have caused sewage to spill into the First Creek that flows into the Little Platte River.
Officials say there is no threat to public drinking water.
The occurrence is called the sanitary sewer overflow. It’s a common problem during heavy rainfall periods. The amount of wastewater within the system exceeds the capacity.
