KANSAS CITY, Mo.-If you can't spend it, it might as well be interesting to look at! Check out what students have created out of shredded U.S. currency at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Why shred cash? Officials at the Federal Reserve say it is mandatory and the Shred Challenge will give 150 Kansas City area students not just the chance to be creative, but also a lesson in finances too.

Students competing in the contest were each given $800.00 in shredded cash to create a work of art. They only earned the destroyed dough after getting a lesson in financial savings from a member of the bank staff.

The students had two requirements for the project. Their work had to be at least 60% currency and had to focus on their personal interpretation of savings.

The event lasts until noon on Friday, November 13th.
