RAYTOWN, Mo. - Blue Ridge Elementary School dedicated its basketball courts to two brothers killed in a quadruple murder nearly three months ago.
Friday morning, 10-year-old Amir and 7-year-old Gerard Clemons were honored in a tearful ceremony.
The brothers, along with their aunt and her boyfriend, were killed inside her Raytown apartment March 16, 2009. An arrest has yet to be made in the case.
The boys’ parents joined students and teachers Friday to celebrate the lives of two boys who loved basketball.
The idea for the dedication came together earlier this month. A group of teachers put their money together and had two plaques made. Each reads "Drafted to a higher team, forever shooting threes" and sits next to a basketball hoop. They also had a large sign painted across the courts reading "Clemons Court."
"The community has given us a lot, (they) won't let the boys go in vein," said the boys’ father, Gerard Clemons.
The school brought in extra counselors Friday to help the students deal with the emotions of the day.
Teachers say the boys names come up regularly. Many students are worried because no one has been arrested.
