KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Rockhurst High School has a new principal.
Gregory Harkness will take on his new role as principal on July 1, 2010.
The 46-year-old will be leaving his current position as Dean of Academics at Xavier High School in New York City. Like Rockhurst, Xavier is a Jesuit high school.
While at Xavier Harness has also served as guidance counselor, religion teacher, assistant campus minister and coordinator of student activities.
“We are very blessed to have found a new principal with such high qualifications who is also steeped in Jesuit tradition and is a Rockhurst alumnus,” said Rockhurst president Rev. Terrance Baum.
Harness graduated from Rockhurst in 1981. He received a bachelor of arts in philosophy and Spanish from Georgia State University. He also holds a master’s degree in pupil personnel and school counseling from Manhattan College.
“Finding God in all things is a challenge, but one which I will strive to attain each day at Rockhurst. The vision of what Rockhurst is remains rooted in its proud past,
strong present, and what is sure to be its bright future,” said Harkness.
Current Rockhurst principal Larry Ruby is retiring in June after 32 years.
