RIVERSIDE, Mo. - A city ordinance in Riverside, Mo. which called for the city to pay for the sewer bills of some homeowners has been repealed by the Riverside Board of Aldermen.
The board voted earlier this year to pay the sewer bills of homeowners who have Missouri American Water service. City leaders told NBC Action News earlier this year that the sewer bill payment plan was a chance to help residents during challenging economic times.
City officials blame the reversal on red tape which prevented the city from directly paying the bills to the utilities, and concerns from the city attorney who worried other methods of reimbursement might violate the law.
