RAYTOWN, Mo. - The Raytown Board of Aldermen agreed to raise sanitary sewer rates by a dime.

The city held a public hearing a couple weeks ago, and held another public hearing, and read the ordinance on second ready June 2.

The proposal was to raise sanitary sewer rates from $4.87 per 1,000 gallons of water to $4.97 per 1,000 gallons of water.

The measure passed and will go into effect July 1.

City officials say the increase will push Raytown rates to the second highest in the metro - behind Belton.

The average monthly rate in Belton is $40.73. Raytown falls to second at $31.91, followed by Raymore at just over $30.00. Grandview boasts the lowest average monthly bill at $16.50.

Other cities charge a higher rate per 1,000 gallons, but Raytown's monthly base rate of $15.00 is the second highest in the metro, behind Jackson County at $15.07.
