NORBORNE, Mo.-- As of Thursday afternoon, KCP&L has restored power to 350 of the 400 Norbourne residents that lost power after Wednesday's destructive storm.

According to the National Weather Service, a storm with 100-mile-per-hour winds is responsible for the downed power poles and trees that completely knocked out power to the north central Missouri town.

"It's the result of a super cell that went through last evening and knocked a couple-dozen poles to primary feeders," said Chuck Caisley, KCP&L Senior Director of Public Affairs.

Caisley is among the KCP&L corporate employees who volunteered to hand out water as the power lines were repaired.

Caisley says linemen started Wednesday night and worked around the clock to restore electricity.  By Thursday afternoon, an emergency feeder line was activated and power was provided for the town's essential services like police, fire and the water treatment plant.  By 5:00 p.m. electricity had been restored to the majority of residents.

KCP&L says all homes should have power by nightfall.
