MERRIAM, Kan. -- Merriam police warn residents to be on the lookout for people posing as IRS agents.

Authorities said in the past couple of weeks, two reports were received by police of an individual claiming to be a representative of the Internal Revenue Service.

In both incidents, the person went by the name of "Tom Noland", stating he was an agent with the IRS and had a check for the individual for a large amount of money for winning a prize.

Authorities also said in one of the reports filed, someone received a phone call stating they owed a luxury tax on a check they would be receiving in the mail that day and asked for the person's credit card number.

Police ask if anyone has information on this case to call the Merriam Police Department at (913) 322-5580.
