INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – A police standoff near two middle schools forced the schools to go under lockdown Tuesday afternoon as a precaution.

The lockdown began around 3 p.m. at Korte Middle School and Nowlin Middle School. Korte Middle School is located at 2437 S. Hardy Ave., and Nowlin is located at 2800 S. Hardy Ave.

The lockdown lasted for approximately an hour and a half.

There was a police standoff nearby, so the schools were under lockdown for precautionary measures, according to Independence School District Public Relations Director Nancy Lewis.

Police also re-routed buses in that area.

No injuries were reported.

The police standoff ended at around 5 p.m. The suspect involved is in police custody.
