KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police officers across the metro want folks to have fun this holiday weekend, but don't want them drinking and driving.

Officers will fan out across the metro in an effort to crackdown on drunk driving.

The increased patrols begin today and run through Sunday.

Drivers who get stopped and are found to have been drinking can face heavy fines, the loss of their driver's license and jail time.

Drunk driving also claims thousands of lives each year.

There were more than seven thousand accidents involving alcohol in 2007.
