OLATHE, Kan. – Scripps National Spelling Bee champion Kavya Shivashankar will get another honor Tuesday night.

The Olathe City Council and The Olathe News will hold a reception for Shivashankar at 6:30 p.m. in the foyer of City Hall, 100 E. Santa Fe Drive.

The public is welcome to attend.

Following the reception, the Olathe City Council will offer a special recognition for Shivashankar during the council meeting.

The 13-year-old from California Trail Junior High won the Scripps National Spelling Bee on May 28, in her fourth and final trip to the competition.

She is the first Olathe student to win the Bee and the first Kansas student to do so since 1978.
