INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The City of Independence will celebrate the fruits of its labor Wednesday.  Nearly a year and a half after work started on Jackson Drive, it's done.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the west side of Jackson Drive between 37th Terrace and the railroad bridge.

The road between 37th Terrace and R.D. Mize Road opened to traffic on June 5th.

The four-lane street will give drivers a north and south bound route as well as direct access to Centerpoint Medical Center on 39th Street.

The $12 million project includes new bridges over the Kansas City Southern Railroad tracks and Crackerneck Creek.  A new traffic light and turn lanes have been built at the R.D. Mize Road intersection.

There is still work to be done on the sides of the road which could close one of the traffic lanes during construction.

The project was funded through the development agreement from the Centerpoint Medical Center project.

There are also plans to extend Jackson Drive north to 78 Highway by the end of the year.
