KANSAS CITY, Mo. - News of a Baltimore Negro Leagues Baseball Museum isn't sitting well in Kansas City.
Bob Kendrick is the Vice President of Marketing for the Kansas City Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. He says an official designation from Congress came in the late 1990's and it shouldn't be shared with anyone.
"We're not afraid of competition. We just feel that in this marketplace and mean the entire nation as our marketplace, that you water down the real significance by doing all these Negro League projects," said Kendrick.
Kendrick says the Kansas City Negro Leagues Museum management would be open to a possible collaboration.
The Baltimore museum would cost approximately $4.1 million to build and would include artifacts from collections of historian Ray Banks and the late "Bert" Simmons, a former Negro League player.
