NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The North Kansas City School District plans to cut administrators and other staff, to save the district an estimated $1 million dollars next year.

School board members unanimously approved the reorganization recommendations Thursday night.

The board expects a total budget shortfall for 2010-11 at $7-$11 million dollars.

School officials say the shortfall is due to lower assessed property values, a reduction in sales tax revenue and uncertainty in state funding.

The district plans to reorganize by decentralizing its leadership and reduce the number of administrators in the central office.

In it's first phase the district will reduce the number of executive cabinet members from nine to five, and save an estimated $670,000.00

The second phase will reduce the number of executive directors and directors from 23 positions to 17, to save an additional $345,000.00

Twelve curriculum and staff development coordinators will move back into full-time teaching positions or coaching positions.

The final phase, which should be complete by February, will be to reorganize all the remaining central office administrative positions.

The staff positions will be made by the end of February, but the changes will not go info effect until July 1.
