KANSAS CITY, Mo. – “Habitat for Humanity-Kansas City” broke ground Sunday on its second interfaith build.
Congregations from the Christian, Jewish and Islamic communities joined together to provide the money and volunteer labor necessary to build a house at 3528 Flora. Marcia Davis and her children, a family in need of adequate housing, will live in the house when completed.
Congregations involved in the project include: Visitation and St. Francis Xavier Catholic parishes, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral, All Saints, St. Anne’s, and Mary Magdalene Episcopal congregations, and Congregation Ohev Shalom, Temple B’nai Jehudah, Al Inshirah Islamic Center, and Jacob’s Well Church.
“Habitat for Humanity-Kansas City” is the seventh affiliate of Habitat International and one of three affiliates in the metro area.
Through volunteer labor and both cash and material donations, Habitat KC builds and rehabs decent houses with the help of families in need. The houses are then sold to these partner families at no profit with a no-interest mortgage.
In 30 years, Habitat KC has built more than 200 houses and rehabbed many more, providing quality housing for hundreds in our community.
