MISSION, Kan. - Kansas City businesses are pumping in cash to help a pet shelter that lost a $5000 donation.
The Pet Connection was to be the recipient of a donation from a recent Celebrity Eating Challenge hosted by
Adam's Rib Barbeque. Bryan Truta of
Jack 105.1 FM Radio won the challenge and The Pet Connection was his charity of choice. Two months later, the restaurant closed shop and could not be contacted about the prize money.
David Block, of
Block & Co. Inc. Realtors said Thursday that he would donate a reimbursement of $5,000.
“We are ecstatic that David Block and Block & Co. were able to donate the money and help out the animals,” Pet Connection Operation Director Jason Huff told the
Kansas City Star. “Everything has ended up working out pretty good for us.”
Then on Friday,
Panera Bread of Kansas donated $2,500 through its Community Breadbox program. The latter check comes from donations made by Panera Bread customers in Kansas City.
“At Panera Bread, we are committed to our communities and we are proud of the generosity our customers have shown,” said Michelle Cole, franchise spokesperson for Panera Bread of Kansas. “When Panera Bread heard the donation was not coming through for this organization, we knew our customers would want to help,” Cole stated.
Huff says the
Pet Connection will use part of the money to assist dogs they take in from the Ray of Hope program, which takes pets from shelters and places them in no-kill adoption programs and homes.
