TOPEKA, Kan. -- State investigatators are still working to determine what sickened dozens of customers at a Mexican restaurant in Lenexa.
Maggie Thompson, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said Wednesday the investigation remains ongoing into what forced the closing of the Mi Ranchito on 95th Street.
The restaurant was shut down twice in August after dozens of customers became sick while eating there. The restaurant remains closed after the Aug. 30 incident when more than two dozen customers became ill.
The restaurant owners maintain the poisoning
resulted from a chemical reaction between carbonated water and copper tubing, and that plumbers have corrected the problem. The state is determining whether that or something else is to blame.
