Merriam, Kan. Man Sentenced in Mortgage Fraud Case

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A Merriam, Kan. man has been sentenced to federal prison for mortgage fraud.

Soctt Alexander, 70, pleaded guilty in Jan. to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.

In 2003 and 2004, Alexander admitted he conspired with co-defendants to submit inflated property appraisals to lenders to obtain loans through his company, Altantic Mortgage. Two co-defendants have already pleaded guilty. Three others will go on trial later this year.

Alexander was sentenced Thursday to one year and a day in federal prison.
